Vietnam - Ha Long Bay to Hanoi

Monday, July 11th, 2011

We woke up at around 6:15AM and get ready for breakfast at 7:00AM. Breakfast consisted of eggs, bacon, chicken, toast and/or chicken pho. Pretty good too.

Then the ferry crew showed us how to make spring rolls (I missed out on this because I was trying to get some clothes dried up) and then we made one last stop at Dao Ti Top (Dao is island in Vietnamese). There, we hiked to the top, took some pictures, went back down, spent some time at the beach on the island, and then got back on the ferry to pack up. Everyone checked out of their rooms before 11:00AM. Around 11:00AM, we ate lunch and then left the ferry.

Breakfast.

We got back on the tour bus around 12:15PM and headed back to Hanoi. There was one more stop at the same touristy spot.

That is Vivi waving.

Around 3:00PM, in the back of the bus, one of the Vietnamese local guys on our bus dropped his cell through the cracks of the seat. There were 7 rows in the bus and I was in the last row. Anyway, so we lifted up his seat to get his cell and we find a wallet of some girl from the San Jose area. In the wallet was approximately $250 (a $10 bill with Alexander Hamilton's face and $240 worth of Vietnam Dongs), her driver's license, two VIB Bank debit cards, with her pin numbers written on a separate small sheet of paper, a business card from some ice cream store called Fanny, and a business card of a hostel named Hanoi Backpackers' Hostel.

I held onto the wallet because I was staying in Hanoi for a few more days with my mom and brothers, while everyone else was going back to Vinh.

After we dumped off the volunteers at the sleeping bus station and said goodbye to Ngocy, we got dropped off at some random spot in Hanoi. The huge bus couldn't make it to the small street where our hotel was located. I called a taxi and we taxied over to The Golden Lake Hotel, where we were staying. We checked in around 5:30PM.

At around 6:05PM, I called the hostel listed on the business card in the lost wallet and asked for the name listed on the driver's license. The clerk said she had just checked out 5 minutes ago so she's not allowed to release any information.

Mommy, Sonny, Bowie, and myself then walked over to this place near our hotel and had won ton soup, bun trang, and bun bo. It was a hole in the wall but it was solid food. After dinner, everyone crashed except for me. I went to go get my phone unlocked, simmed up, and money entered. Some dude named Dung or Hung assisted me where to go.

Then it was goodnight.
