Vietnam - Saigon - Day 5 - Quang's Dinner

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

I wake up late this morning. Not a lot went on in the early part of this day. I tutored the kids, did some laundry and played tien len with them.

Breakfast. Mi Quang.

Lunch.

Around 5:00PM, I took a taxi over to Nhi Sam's house to make sure Sonny and Mommy were coming to dinner.

Snapshot from inside the taxi ride to Nhi Sam's. That is a Kobe jersey. Good chance it's not authentic ha.

Outside Sam's House.

Sam's house is that green one on the left.

Quang had invited us to dinner. Quang is another cousin. He's Daddy's only younger sibling's (Chi) kid. Chi is also dead. Apparently, he's pretty well off also. He's 38. He has a one year old. His wife is pretty. He has a four story house on the outskirts of the city. It's in an isolated area next to some college. The location is far from the city but his place is big and clean. He has an extra bedroom that he said I can stay in whenever need be. He's a very nice and smart guy. He comes off as hard working. He likes to play tennis twice on the weekends for 2-3 hours to stay in shape. He used to be a manager at IBM in Vietnam. Now, he's a supervisor for a company called Aricent. Aricent used to be headquartered in Palo Alto. The company does software for all kinds of devices. It also makes the interface and layout for iPhones.

We check out his pad (built about 3 years ago, land was 100k plus 200k-300k to build) and then he takes us out to a Chinese restaurant nearby called Ming Dynasty. It's a fancy place. The food was solid. We had some roll with duck skin that was ridiculous. The noodle chow mein was also ridiculously good. The fried rice was eh. The mushroom soup with tomatoes and rau muong was okay. The duck was above average. The final tab for 16 was only around $200 something.
